About us
We’re a specialist analytics consultancy, building models and tools for predicting cricket matches around the world. Our technical team works across modelling, data, engineering and deployment, taking responsibility for its work from the first idea through to production. We share a goal of solving cricket. You’ll focus on modelling, with scope to get involved wherever your skills and ideas are useful.
The role
We’re trying to understand cricket better than anyone else. We have the best data available, and you’ll build the models that make the most of it. You’ll explore new ideas, test them rigorously and turn the strongest into useful prediction tools.
AI is central to how we work. We use agents every day to help us plan, build, review and run our systems. That lets a small team take on work that would once have needed a much larger one, and lets each person cover far more ground. We’re still discovering the best ways to work like this, and we want people who’ll help shape it.
Above all, we’re looking for the right person. Energy, ideas, a positive attitude and initiative matter more to us than any specific experience or skill on this list.
What you’ll do
- Develop and improve the statistical and machine-learning methods behind our cricket models.
- Take ideas from exploratory analysis through to clear, well-tested production code, and review colleagues’ work.
- Use AI agents throughout your work, and help improve the team’s tools and workflows.
- Work closely with engineers and analysts to understand how your models perform in practice and where they could improve.
What we’re looking for
Ideally you’ll have
- A postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in statistics, maths, physics, computer science or another quantitative subject. Relevant industry experience will also be considered.
- An ability to identify problems and opportunities, develop your own ideas and take responsibility for seeing them through.
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with the standard data science stack (e.g. pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch), including experience writing production code.
- A solid grounding in probability, statistics, regression and model evaluation, and the judgement to question whether a result stands up to scrutiny.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, including breaking down tasks, reviewing outputs and knowing when to challenge them.
- Good engineering habits, including Git, code review, testing and reproducible analysis.
- Clear communication, including the ability to explain modelling decisions to people who aren’t modellers.
Nice to have
- Experience with Bayesian modelling, such as hierarchical models in PyMC or Stan.
- Experience building or evaluating forecasting models or other predictive systems.
- Experience working with sports data or similarly noisy real-world data.
- Experience with C# or React.
- An interest in cricket, though you don’t need to be an expert.
Why join us
- Challenging modelling problems, with your work used directly in our prediction tools.
- A small team where you’ll have real ownership and a say in technical decisions.
- The opportunity to help improve how we use AI across the business.
- The tools you need to do your best work. If there’s hardware, software or an AI tool that would help, we’ll generally get it for you.
- A discretionary, performance-related bonus that has typically matched or exceeded base salary.
- Regular team socials, private healthcare and paid conference attendance.
How to apply
Every application must include something you’ve built using AI. It can be a side project, a tool, an analysis or anything else that shows how you think. Share a link to a repo or demo, or if it can’t be shared publicly, send a short write-up instead. Applications must include a project link or write-up to be considered.
Send this with your CV and a short covering note, using the subject line “Member of the Technical Team: Data Science”. In your note, tell us what you set out to achieve, which decisions you made and what you learnt.
The application email will be added here before the site opens to applicants.
We welcome applications from everyone, whatever their background.
